First Torah Reading: Leviticus 16:1-17
16:1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they drew near before the Lord, 1 and died; 16:2 and the Lord said to Moses, “Speak to Aaron your brother, that he does not come at any time into the holy place within the veil, before the ark cover which is upon the ark, so that he does not die; for I appear in the cloud on the ark cover. 16:3 Here is how shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bull for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering. 16:4 He shall put on the holy linen tunic, and he shall have the linen breeches on his flesh, and shall be girded with the linen sash, and he shall be clothed with the linen mitre; they are the holy garments. And he shall bathe his body in water, and put them on.
16:5 “And he shall take two male goats for a sin offering, and one ram 2 for a burnt offering, from the congregation of the children of Israel. 16:6 And Aaron shall present the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself, and for his house. 16:7 And he shall take the two goats, and set them before the Lord at the door of the tent of meeting. 16:8 And Aaron shall cast lots on the two goats: one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for Azazel. 16:9 And Aaron shall present the goat on which the lot fell for the Lord, and offer him for a sin offering. 16:10 But the goat, on which the lot fell for Azazel, shall be set alive before the Lord, to make atonement over him, to send him away for Azazel into the wilderness.
16:11 “And Aaron shall present the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bull of the sin offering which is for himself. 16:12 And he shall take a censer full of coals of fire from off the altar before the Lord, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the veil. 16:13 And he shall put the incense on the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of the incense may cover the ark cover that is upon the testimony, so that he does not die. 16:14 And he shall take some of the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it with his finger on the ark cover on the east; and he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times before the ark cover.
16:15 “Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with his blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the ark cover, and before the ark cover. 16:16 And he shall make atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanliness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, even all their sins; and so shall he do for the tent of meeting, that dwells with them in the midst of their uncleanliness. 16:17 And there shall be no man in the tent of meeting when he goes in to make atonement in the holy place, until he comes out, and has made atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel.
Second Torah Reading: Leviticus 16:18-24
16:18 “And he shall go out to the altar that is before the Lord, and make atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bull, and of the blood of the goat, and put it on the horns of the altar around it. 16:19 And he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and set it apart it from the uncleanliness of the children of Israel.
16:20 “And when he has finished atoning for the holy place, and the tent of meeting, and the altar, 3 then he shall present the live goat. 16:21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess all the iniquities of the children of Israel over him, and all their transgressions, even all their sins; and he shall put them on the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of an appointed man into the wilderness. 16:22 And the goat shall bear all their iniquities upon him to a land which is cut off; and he shall let the goat go in the wilderness.
16:23 “And Aaron shall come into the tent of meeting, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there. 16:24 And he shall bathe his body in water in a holy place, and put on his other clothing, and come forth, and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people. 4
Third Torah Reading: Leviticus 16:25-34
16:25 And he shall make the fat of the sin offering smoke on the altar. 16:26 And he that lets the goat for Azazel go shall wash his clothes, and bathe his body in water, and afterward he may come into the camp. 16:27 And the bull of the sin offering, and the goat of the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall be carried forth outside the camp; and they shall burn their skins, and their flesh, and their dung in the fire. 16:28 And he that burns them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his body in water, and afterward he may come into the camp.
16:29 “And it shall be a statute to you forever; in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and shall do no manner of work, the home born, or the stranger that sojourns among you. 16:30 For on this day atonement shall be made for you, to cleanse you; you shall be clean from all your sins before the Lord. 16:31 It is a sabbath of solemn rest for you, and you shall afflict your souls; it is a statute forever.
16:32 “And the priest, who shall be anointed and who shall be consecrated to be priest in his father’s place, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen garments, even the holy garments. 16:33 And he shall make atonement for the most holy place, and he shall make atonement for the tent of meeting and for the altar; and he shall make atonement for the priests and for all the people of the assembly. 16:34 And this shall be an everlasting statute to you, to make atonement for the children of Israel because of all their sins once in the year.”
And he did as the Lord commanded Moses.
Fourth Torah Reading: Leviticus 17:1-7
17:1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 17:2 “Speak to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the children of Israel, and say to them, ‘This is the thing which the Lord has commanded, saying, 17:3 “Whatever man of the House of Israel, or of the strangers dwelling among you, 5 that kills an ox, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or that kills it outside the camp, 17:4 and has not brought it to the door of the tent of meeting, so as to sacrifice it as burnt offering or peace offering to the Lord to be acceptable for a pleasing savor, and slaughters it outside, and does not bring it to the door of the tent of meeting, 6 to present it as an offering to the Lord before the tabernacle of the Lord, blood shall be imputed to that man; he has shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people. 17:5 This is so that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they sacrifice in the open field, even that they may bring them to the Lord, to the door of the tent of meeting, to the priest, and sacrifice them for sacrifices of peace offerings to the Lord. 17:6 And the priest shall dash the blood against the altar of the Lord at the door of the tent of meeting, and make the fat smoke for a sweet savor to the Lord. 17:7 And they shall no longer sacrifice their sacrifices to the satyrs, after whom they go astray. This shall be a statute for them forever throughout their generations.”’
Fifth Torah Reading: Leviticus 17:8-18:5
17:8 “And you shall say to them, ‘Whatever man from the House of Israel, or from the strangers that sojourn among them, that offers a burnt offering or sacrifice, 17:9 and does not bring it to the door of the tent of meeting, to sacrifice it to the Lord, even that man shall be cut off from his people.
17:10 “‘And whatever man from the House of Israel, or from the strangers that sojourn among them, that eats any manner of blood, I will set My face against that soul that eats blood, and will cut him off from among his people. 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement because of the life.’ 17:12 Therefore I said to the children of Israel: ‘No soul from among you shall eat blood, nor shall any stranger that sojourns among you eat blood. 17:13 And whatever man from the children of Israel, or from the strangers that sojourn among them, that hunts any beast or bird that may be eaten, he shall pour out its blood, and cover it with dust. 17:14 For as to the life of all flesh, its blood is all one with its life.’ Therefore I said to the children of Israel: ‘You shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh; for the life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off. 17:15 And every soul that eats that which dies by itself, or that which is torn from beasts, whether he is home born or a stranger, he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening; then he shall be clean. 17:16 But if he does not wash them, nor bathe his body, then he shall bear his iniquity.’”
18:1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 18:2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, ‘I am the Lord your God. 18:3 You shall not follow after the doings of the land of Egypt, in which you dwelt; and you shall not follow after the doings of the land of Canaan, to which I bring you; neither shall you walk in their statutes. 18:4 You shall do My ordinances, and you shall keep My statutes, to walk in them. I am the Lord your God. 18:5 You shall therefore keep My statutes, and My ordinances; which, if a man does, he shall live by them. I am the Lord.
Sixth Torah Reading: Leviticus 18:6-21
18:6 “‘None of you shall approach anyone that is a close relative to him, to uncover their nakedness. I am the Lord.
18:7 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, and the nakedness of your mother; she is your mother. You shall not uncover her nakedness.
18:8 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife; it is your father’s nakedness.
18:9 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or the daughter of your mother, whether born at home, or born abroad.
18:10 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your son’s daughter, or of your daughter’s daughter; for theirs is your own nakedness.
18:11 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife’s daughter, begotten of your father; she is your sister.
18:12 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister; she is your father’s near close relative.
18:13 “You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister; for she is your mother’s close relative.
18:14 “You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother. You shall not approach his wife; she is your aunt.
18:15 “You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law; she is your son’s wife. You shall not uncover her nakedness.
18:16 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness.
18:17 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter; you shall not take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; they are close relatives, and it is wickedness.
18:18 “‘And you shall not take a woman to be a rival to her sister, to uncover her nakedness, alongside the other in her lifetime.
18:19 “‘And you shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is impure by her uncleanness.
18:20 “‘And you shall not lie carnally with your neighbor’s wife, to defile yourself with her.
Seventh Torah Reading: Leviticus 18:22-30
18:22 “‘You shall not lie with a man as with a woman; it is an abomination.
18:23 “‘And you shall not lie with any beast to defile yourself with it; neither shall any woman stand before a beast, to lie down to it; it is perversion.
18:24 “‘Do not defile yourselves in any of these things; for the nations, which I cast out from before you, are defiled in all these. 18:25 And the land was defiled; therefore I visited its iniquity upon it, and the land vomited out her inhabitants. 9 18:26 You shall therefore keep My statutes and My ordinances, and shall not do any of these abominations; neither the home born, nor the stranger that sojourns among you– 18:27 for the men of the land, that were before you, have done all these abominations, and the land is defiled– 18:28 so that the land does not vomit you out also, when you defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you. 10 18:29 For whoever shall do any of these abominations, even the souls that do them shall be cut off from among their people. 18:30 Therefore you shall keep My charge, so that you do not any of these abominable customs, which were done before you, and that you do not defile yourselves in them. I am the Lord your God.’”
Prophets’ Reading: Ezekiel 22:1-16
22:1 Moreover, the Word of the Lord came to me, saying, 22:2 “Now you, son of man, will you judge– will you judge the bloody city? Then cause her to know all her abominations. 22:3 And you shall say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “O city that sheds blood in your midst, that your time may come, and that makes idols to yourself, to defile you: 22:4 you have become guilty in your blood that you have shed, and are defiled by your idols which you have made! You have caused your days to draw near, and have come even to your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mocking to all the countries! 22:5 Those that are near, and those that are far from you, shall mock you, you who are defiled in name and full of turmoil.
22:6 “‘“Behold, the princes of Israel, everyone according to his might, 11 have been in you to shed blood. 22:7 In you, they have made light of father and mother; in your midst, they have dealt with the stranger by oppression; and in you, they have wronged the fatherless and the widow. 22:8 You have despised My holy things, and have profaned My sabbaths. 22:9 In you, talebearers have come to shed blood; in you, they have eaten upon the mountains; and in your midst, they have committed lewdness. 22:10 In you, they have uncovered their fathers’ nakedness; 12 and in you, they have humbled her that was unclean in her impurity. 22:11 And each has committed abomination with his neighbor’s wife; and each has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law; and in you, each has humbled his sister, his father’s daughter. 22:12 In you, they have taken gifts to shed blood; you have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained from your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten Me,” says the Lord God. 22:13 “Behold, therefore, I have stricken My hand at your dishonest gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in your midst. 22:14 Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with you? I, the Lord, have spoken it, and will do it. 22:15 And I will scatter you among the nations, and disperse you through the countries; and I will consume your filthiness out of you. 22:16 And you shall be profaned in yourself in the sight of the nations; 13 and you shall know that I am the Lord.”’”
Apostles’ Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:9-20
6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Make no mistake; neither the sexually immoral, nor idol worshipers, nor adulterers, nor the corrupt, nor men who lie with males, 6:10 nor oppressors, nor thieves, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, will inherit the Kingdom of God. 6:11 And these things have been in some of you; but you are washed, and are set apart, and made righteous in the name of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, and by the Spirit of our God.
6:12 Everything is lawful for me, but not everything is profitable for me. Everything is lawful for me; but nothing shall have dominion over me. 6:13 Food is for the belly, and the belly is for food; but God will bring them both to nothing. But the body is not for sexual immorality, but for our Lord; and our Lord is for the body. 6:14 And as God has raised up our Lord, so He will raise us up, by His power. 6:15 Do you not know that your bodies are the members of the Messiah? Shall one take a member of the Messiah, and make it the member of a harlot? May it never be! 6:16 Or do you not know that whoever joins himself to a harlot, he is one body with her? For it is said, “The two shall be one flesh.” 14 6:17 But he that joins himself to our Lord is with Him one spirit.
6:18 Flee sexual immorality; for every other sin which a man commits is external to his body; but he that commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who dwells in you, whom you have received from God? And your are not your own; 6:20 for you are bought with a price. Glorify God, therefore, with your body, and with your spirit, which are God’s.
